Anatomy and Physiology for AOP

Prerequisite: Understanding of ophthalmic terminology and general medical knowledge. Description: This course incorporates visual aids in describing the anatomic and physiologic components present in the visual system. The visual pathway, ocular and extraocular structures, and neurologic and systemic components affecting vision will be discussed. The importance of understanding basic principles of ocular physiology in affecting exceptional patient care and work up will be discussed. Also included will be the role that major ocular structures play in physician determination of overall ocular health.

Description: Detecting, troubleshooting and correcting errors are critical skills that the ophthalmologist highly values in an ophthalmic technician. Most common errors are simple mistakes. This course will outline how to detect common errors made during the work up or intake of a patient, how to identify errors when performing diagnostic testing and how to correct them. This course will also address identifying and troubleshooting equipment errors.
